The Issue

Compared to girls, research shows that boys in the Australia are more likely to be diagnosed with a behaviour disorder, prescribed stimulant medications, fail out of school, binge drink, commit a violent crime, and/or take their own lives. The Man Cave exists to deconstruct masculinity and provide a structured transition for boys into adulthood. The Man Cave will create men of the highest esteem, giving them the exposure and opportunities that will lead to heightened awareness of themselves, improved leadership skills, relationship building capabilities and value and knowledge based stances on social issues.

The Response

The Man Cave workshops focus on deconstructing masculinity and the role of mass media in shaping these stereotypes, unpacking the importance of emotional intelligence and its correlation mental illness with young men and providing practical skills, such as mindfulness, meditation and self-awareness, to successfully guide this transition from boy to adult.
