Frequently asked questions

The Propeller Fund exists to inspire and enable the spreading of youth-led projects in local communities across Australia. Whether you’re inspired to have go at a project you’ve seen on this site, or starting your own thing, we want you to make it fly.

Applicants must be between 12 and 25 years of age at the time of application and must be an Australian citizen.

All applicants under the age of 18 must obtain parental or guardian consent prior to applying. If you are successful, your parent/guardian will be required to sign and acknowledge the Propeller Fund Agreement including the terms and conditions.

The Propeller Fund will provide 1 x $500 grant per week.

Applicants are only eligible for one Propeller grant within a 12 month period.

If you are part of a project group, only one group member can apply for the Propeller Fund on behalf of the group.

Propeller funding must be used for project related expenses only.

Applications must represent an idea for a community project responding to a social or environmental issue. The idea must be youth-led and it is expected that young people will play a key role in project development and implementation.

Propeller projects should be:

  • youth-led (Young people aged between 12-25 should play a major role);
  • have a social or environmental focus (It’s making a difference!);
  • demonstrate local impact (We’re interested in projects that make a difference to your local community and the issues they face); and
  • have community networks and support (Don’t try to do it all on your own. Link in with local groups who can help).

Applications will be reviewed by FYA regularly and you will be notified by email and/or phone by within one month. If you are successful, you (or your parent/guardian if you’re under 18) will be required to sign and acknowledge a Propeller Fund Agreement before receiving the funds.

FYA will transfer the funds to the nominated bank account once we receive the completed Propeller Fund Agreement.

You need to commence, or continue, your project explained in your application within 6 months of receiving the grant.

Grant recipients will be required to provide FYA with a project update at 6 months and 12 months from the date funds are received.
